Whoever is choosing music for The Penguin series... last week we had the Cure's "A Forest," this week the Sisters of Mercy's "More" and Chris Isaak's "Black Flowers." Really amusing to me is that while the lyrics to "More" are applicable to the scene and characters, the show only plays the music of it, so it's like an added component for only a few

I finally got to see The Batman, which I mostly enjoyed, though I felt it was too long. I know some viewers were bothered that the Batman wasn't an all-knowing god of knowledge and detection, but I appreciated getting a look at an early-years version, where he's still working out who he is as the Batman and what he does on the job instead of ( Read more... )

It used to be a thing where Marvel excelled at live action movies while DC ruled in animation, but seeing the Batman animated films aired on Toonami as a tie-in to DC FanDome 2021 on the last two Saturday night/Sunday mornings have seriously made me question this since they mostly really bored me.

Toonami is airing Batman Year One, and it sucks. It's working so hard to be noir, edgy, cynical, "hard men doing hard things," and misogynistic (and Frank Miller), and the voice actors really aren't doing it for me, especially Bruce Wayne's (though he's not as bad as Batman). I'd rather be watching the usual anime.

Gotham's final season is stumbling to an end, with its final, timeskipping-ahead episode, playing next week. This week's episode, "They Did What?," wasn't great but it's been better than the last few before it. I was looking forward to this new, shortened, final season of Gotham, thinking that the shortness would force the creators to do more meat and less filler, it being the final meant they could have more gonzo moments, and they couldn't screw No Man's Land up. What was I thinking?
